An Urban experience turning a Parking into a Park.

We propose to compose this project around situations that will be more experiential than contemplative.
Our proposal is an exceptional journey made of unprecedented situations, joyful celebrations and contextual experiences. Offering the city of Abu Dhabi, the MUBADALA PARK a meeting place not only for the employees of Mubadala but for the surrounding urban life.
Our intervention aims at creating instances in the parking plot aiming at converting it into a park for the public. Adding new activities to the park will activate it outside office hours and turn it into a vibrant hub in the city. Thus, projecting Mubadala’s role and strategy in the urban life of Abu Dhabi.
In fact, we have reshuffled the parking layout allowing for more residual space for investment. Those residual spaces are injected with vegetation creating two important components: a green belt on the periphery of the plot, and a green corridor for pedestrians and runners.
The floor is then marked with all necessary information for the parking’s circulation, different shades of green parking spots take over the asphalt, creating a patchwork of green which contributes to the concept of the park.
A running track goes around the plot, entering the green corridor allowing for runners to benefit from a 200m loop. A cycling track circles inside the plot, also adding an activity for the public to enjoy.
A shading device provides shading to the cars parked during office hours, and safety for the trees and the runners after hours.
The multi-disciplinary spring offers different activities for entertainment: it improves the lifestyle of the employees at Mubadala by offering them shaded lunch pods and benches to relax, chat and take a break when needed. It provides several sports related activities to visitors and users that may use the device at any time of the day: calisthenics bars, swing sets and an arena for kids to play.
